Large-Diameter Seamless Square Tube
Large-Diameter Seamless Square Tube
A large-diameter seamless square tube is a hollow structural section with a square cross-section and side lengths typically exceeding 150 mm, manufactured without welded seams through hot extrusion or piercing-and-rolling processes from solid steel billets.
Producing large seamless square profiles presents significant metallurgical and engineering challenges. Unlike smaller tubes formed through cold drawing, large-diameter variants require hot working—heating billets to 1,100–1,250°C and forcing them through shaped dies or using the round-to-square rolling method (rolling a pierced round shell through square pass sequences). This ensures grain structure integrity and uniform wall thickness across substantial cross-sections.
Key Characteristics:
Size Range: Side lengths from 150 mm to over 500 mm; wall thicknesses from 6 mm to 50 mm+
Weight Capacity: Single-piece lengths up to 12–16 meters, supporting heavy structural loads
Mechanical Integrity: Seamless construction eliminates weld-line vulnerabilities, critical for dynamic and high-stress environments
Material Grades: Carbon steels (Q235B, Q355B, 20#), low-alloy steels (Q390, Q420), and stainless steels
Primary Applications:
Heavy machinery frames and press beds requiring rigid, warp-resistant structures
Bridge and infrastructure construction for primary load-bearing members
Shipbuilding and offshore platforms where fatigue resistance and impact toughness are paramount
Crane booms and aerial work platforms demanding high strength-to-weight ratios at scale
Pressure vessels and structural columns in industrial facilities
Standards: GB/T 3094, ASTM A500 Grade C/D, EN 10210 S355J2H, JIS G3466 STKR490. Custom dimensions and mechanical testing protocols available for project-specific requirements.
